v2 v3 1 1 = 7th Web as Corpus Workshop (WAC-7) = 2 To be held in association with [http://www2012.org/ WWW 12] in Lyon, France,2 To be held in association with [http://www2012.org/ WWW2012] in Lyon, France, 3 3 17th April 2012 4 4 5 5 Sponsored by [http://www.sigwac.org.uk ACL SIGWAC] 6 6 7 More and more people are using Web data for linguistic and NLP research. The workshop, the sixth in an annual series, provides a venue for exploring how we can use it effectively and what we will find if we do. 7 More and more people are using Web data for linguistic and NLP research: the Web provides an easy 8 source of linguistic data in a great variety of languages. However, a ‘crawl’ is not ready for exploration 9 in the same way a traditional ‘corpus’ is. We need to turn a crawl into a corpus. The workshop, the seventh in an annual series, provides a venue for exploring what it involves, how to do it, and what we find out if we do. 8 10 9 11 We invite submissions which: … … 11 13 * explore characteristics of Web data from a linguistics/NLP perspective including registers, domains, frequency distributions, comparisons between datasets 12 14 * use crawled Web data for NLP purposes (with emphasis on the data rather than the use) 13 Previous WAC workshops have been in Europe and Africa. The west coast of the US is the global centre for web development, hosting Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and a thousand others, so we are looking forward to visiting! 15 16 The previous WAC workshops have been co-located with various conferences in computational linguistics. This time the workshop co-locates with WWW2012, the main world conference on the Web technologies and their impact on the society. 14 17 15 18 16 19 == Call for Papers == 17 * Submission by '''January 15 2012,''' to be made through the EasyChair system at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=www201220 * Submission by '''January 15 2012,''' to be made through [https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=www2012 EasyChair] 18 21 * Notification of acceptance by January 30 19 22 * Camera-ready copy due February 15 20 23 21 Submissions should be formatted using the WWW 2012 stylefiles, with blind reviewand not exceeding 8 pages plus an extra page for references.
